Guatemala Customs Regulation - No Splitting of BL

09 July 2009

Dear Valued Customer,

As per the Guatemalan Customs Law (CAUCA - Código Aduanero Uniforme Centroamericano - and RECAUCA - Reglamento del Código Aduanero Uniforme Centroamericano) which came into effect on 25 August 2008, inbound shipments into Guatemala are not allowed to be split.

There can only be one Bill of Lading (B/L) per container or one B/L assigned to a number of containers. Guatemalan Customs will not release the cargo if the B/L has been split.

The only way a B/L can be split is by consigning the cargo to an NVOCC, who will use the B/L as Master B/L to issue House B/Ls to cover the split shipments to final consignees.

Please feel free to contact your local APL Sales or Customer Service representative if you have any questions.

Yours Sincerely,
